Child disability benefits: An investment worth making

Children with disabilities are, arguably, the world’s most vulnerable children, evidence suggests. But it doesn’t have to be this way, as indicated by the evidence in this short paper. Child Disability Benefits: An investment worth making sets out how a child disability benefit can help these children address the additional costs they face, gain increased visibility and overcome stigma. The paper was published as a call to action to ensure that every child with a disability can access a disability benefit. It reviews the costs and benefits of such programmes, including in South Africa and Mauritius, and shares personal stories of children with disabilities from around the world to highlight the difference that a disability-inclusive social protection system can make.
