Extending social protection: video sets out a pathway for Asia and the Pacific

The right to social protection must be upheld if the sustainable development goals are to be met, a new video by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia, Extending Social Protection, highlights.

The video is part of a new ‘Social Protection Toolbox’ website to support extending social protection.┬áThe site also includes learning modules that UNESCAP developed with Development Pathways, the first two on Why We Need Social Protection, and How to Design Inclusive Social Protection.

More than 1.2bn people live in poverty, on less than $3.10 a day, in the regions, and it would take less than 1% of total GDP to lift these people out of poverty, the video says.
