Towards a Strong and Prosperous Indonesian Society

The Government of Indonesia is working to establish a comprehensive and equitable social protection system by 2025 under the Towards a Strong and Prosperous Indonesian Society or MAHKOTA programme. MAHOKOTA is a flexible facility designed to respond to Government requirements with world-class and top Indonesian expertise, allowing Indonesia to adopt, evidence-based, innovative policies.

The National Team of the Acceleration of Poverty, reporting to the Vice President of Indonesia, was supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade under the four-year, A$40m programme. We provided technical support in order to help the Government to improve the quality and effectiveness of programmes to reduce poverty.

We also provided expert advice on social protection, gender, monitoring and evaluation. Furthermore, we ran simulations to determine how best to re-design tax-financed social protection schemes; developed scenarios for implementing a mix of potential social protection schemes; built a costings model; and undertook simulations to assess the impact of different options on poverty.
