The Fight, a documentary released by The Guardian tells of a struggle for disability rights and benefits that led to the Government of Bolivia to reconsider its policies. Directors Violeta Ayala and Daniel Fallshaw filmed the activists when the protests were at their height in 2016. Rose Mery Guarita, leader of the persons with disabilities group, told the UK newspaper: “Like any Bolivian citizen, we want to be treated with equality and for the government to treat us as citizens, to give us the opportunity to work. We do not want any more silent deaths. We want society to include us, and also to take care of us.” The half-hour video is a case study of how disability rights and benefits can be forced up the political agenda.
