Uzbekistan is a developing country that has led the way with investment in its national social protection system, spending 11% of GDP. They sought to maximise this investment’s benefits with recommendations from UNICEF on reforms to the system.
We supported UNICEF to make proposals for reform of the system by undertaking a comprehensive review of the existing system from 2013. The objectives were to ensure that the system is gender- and child-sensitive, to strengthen management information systems, and to introduce governance reforms.
We devised a household survey, undertook consultations, analysed datasets, and disseminated our findings at workshops. In a follow-up assignment for UNDP aimed at influencing Uzbekistan’s Vision 2030 resulted in a further update and and revised overview of the national system.
